JULIA'S LAMENT
by Donna Eubanks
PART 2...... of 3
"Do you hear me??!!" "You will not stop me from caring for Barnabas, or from loving him!!
" She then stormed out of her room, slamming the door behind her. Roger Collins met her in the
hallway. "Why, Julia, whatever is going on with you slamming doors?!" He questioned
her with his usual air of authority. "Nothing I cannot handle," she announced to him with a
look of great determination. She remarked to Roger, over her shoulder as she walked down the
stairs, "I will not let her defeat me...I will not!" "Julia...JULIA!, whatever do you mean? You
are talking nonsense!" Roger stood there at the top of the stairs. Julia replied, "I'm going to the
Old House to see Barnabas." She was gone in an instant. Julia was staring into the fire. The
incident had taken place shortly before their failed wedding attempt. Julia stated aloud into the
darkened room, "I hate you, you evil witch! If I had the power I would summon Satan himself to
come here to Collinwood and destroy you himself!"
Suddenly she heard anothers voice, a woman's voice....Oh, no, it is HER, Julia thought with fear,
and anger in her heart. "You would try to destroy me, Julia?! If you should try you will not succeed,
you will instead destroy yourself, and Barnabas, too, I'm afraid. Julia turned to look in the direction
of "the voice" and saw her standing in the corner. She had a stern look on her face as she held a
burning candle. The woman was dressed oddly, Julia thought, her clothing was from the
eighteenth century. She was wearing a servants dress and matching hat. To look at this woman filled
Julia with terror, though the woman was very beautiful, with blonde curls and eyes like a cat. The
woman was not a woman actually, she was a witch...she was "Angelique," the one who cursed
Barnabas to be a vampire over 200 years ago. "Do you really want to destroy your precious Barnabas?
Angelique asked her. "You know I would not!" Julia proclaimed as she stood up to face her. "You are
very wise, Julia, you know not to fight with me!" The beautiful woman was coming closer to Julia as
she spoke. "I intend to try!" Julia stated with fierce determination. Suddenly the room was filled with
the evil witches laughter, which made Julia even more angry; she was more angry than afraid. "Why
did you stop our wedding?" Julia asked Angelique. The witch was silent for a moment as she looked
into the fire. "My dear Julia, you do know the answer to that, don't you?" She looked at Julia with
her large green eyes and said, "Barnabas and I were man and wife, a long time ago...." Julia interrupted
her.. "Yes, over two hundred years ago, and you cursed him for all time, or so you thought!" Julia
looked at the witch with pride and said, "I have cured Barnabas of his "affliction".
Angelique looked at Julia with a surprised, yet stern look on her face and said, "Yes Julia, I know that
you did; my question to you is...how, how did you remove my curse?" Julia replied, "You shall never
know how I did it!" she stated proudly. "I have ways to find out what you did to help Barnabas,
Dr. Hoffman!" the witch stated as she stared at Julia. "Just try to find out!" Julia glared at her. The
witch said to Julia, "You are a remarkable woman. Julia, you are very strong...and perhaps very foolish;
for you know what my powers are!" "I could destroy you and your precious Barnabas right now if I
wish!" Julia looked at Angelique with determination, "You will not destroy us, Angelique, because
then you could not torment us." This remark seemed to anger the witch.. "Barnabas should be in love
with me, I am... was in love with him!" She stated as she turned away from Julia. Julia remarked in
wonder to the woman standing before her, "It never ceases to amaze me, at just how human you can
be at times; it is quite obvious that you are STILL in love with Barnabas!?" "Don't be quite so sure,
Julia," she exclaimed, her green eyes flashing. "What would you do if your Barnabas should have
an accident while he is away?" asked the witch. "He will not, Julia replied, he has protection from
you!" "What if Roger should crash his car along the road?" asked the witch. "He will not!", Julia
replied. Angelique was beginning to become more angry than before. "What if Carolyn should be
attacked by a madman?" "She will not!" , replied Dr. Hoffman. Angelique glared at her that Julia
should be so sure of herself and the fate of the Collins family...
